+ Open Day 2019 (25/03/2019 - 10:37:14)
Rix Open day 8th June It was the 40th anniversary of the Rix Alliance and was a good turn out despite the wet
weather which made travelling more
difficult.
We were
delighted to see new people , who were all on holiday
in Norfolk, and were able to join us during the afternoon. Their visit gave them
the opportunity to meet other Rix and to talk about their family tree.
Next year will be the same venue but on the 30th May 2020. New Buckenham Hall has all the facilities needed to host the Open Day including wi-fi and good parking
Recently uploaded onto the website are copies of the Journal that used to be published quarterly and half yearly from Number 30 to 88. Accessed through the members area on the website
Rix Open Day was on Saturday 2nd June 2018 at New Buckenham Village
Hall in the large meeting room
Full address is : Moat
Lane, New Buckenham, Norwich,Norfolk NR162AU
The database will be launched in two phases. The first, on the 6th September 2017, will include the most recent freemen registers from 1714 to the present day, nearly 20,000 entries. These will be followed by the medieval and early modern registers from 1317 to 1713, and in due course by the information on 'citizens', as freemen were also known, from the Enrolled Deeds from 1285.
Each admission provides the name of the new freeman, his trade or occupation, method of entry - be it apprenticeship, patrimony, purchase - the name of the father or master and the date of admission. Taken together, they provide an extraordinary insight into the social, economic, political and cultural structure of Norwich.

The FFHS has produced the leaflet in association with the Society of Australian Genealogists and Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations.
This is a very useful resource . The leaflet focuses on how to research your ancestors if you live in Australasia. It is also a great resource for UK family historians who may have had ancestors who went to Australasia, either because of forced transportation or due to emigration.
The Open day took place on 3rd June , Cringleford, Norwich. It was a small gathering of members but a very enjoyable day nonetheless. It was great to talk and share news with others.
In the News area there is a short piece about the Rix Reunion in Australia. The family line all descend from Henry Tuthill Rix, born Wendling Norfolk. There is also an article about Barnabas Rix
It was with sadness that we learned that Brian Rix has died. He had been a member of the Rix Alliance from the early days. He happily shared what he knew about his family and appreciated receiving the Rix Journal for many years. Brian was very interested in the origins of the Rix name and where the first Rix may have come from. This link to his obituary in the Daily Telegraph tells his story http://www.telegraph.co.uk/obituaries/2016/08/20/lord-rix-actor-manager-and-campaigner-for-the-disabled--obituary/
The Rix Open Day took place this year at Cringleford Norwich. Use of the venue, Action for the Blind, was organised by Derek and proved to be a great place to meet up with Rix from around the UK and to be able relax, chat and exchange information. It was good to see new faces too. Refreshments were provided by Sue and Sheila and also a buffet lunch along with some beautiful homemade cakes.
New family trees have been added. They are in a password protected area so only accessible if a Rix Alliance member. If you would like to join please email susie.rix@virgin.net. T
